First Time Mama's Guide to the best Summer Cocktail Recipes!

With Spring in the air and the warm weather fast approaching, there is no better time to test your bartending skills and shake things up with some weekend cocktail making. 

So many of us are now spending more time at home with the urge to experiment in the kitchen. Baking bread and cinnamon scrolls seem to be a thing of 2020, overtaken by the popularity of the home cocktails.

Whether it’s for a Friday after work delight or a weekend soiree, it’s time to de-winterise and get that cocktail cart sorted with the essentials to create some colourful drinks that reflect the season.

Here are five simple cocktails that taste great and are sure to impress!

French Martini
A cocktail classic if you’re feeling fruity!

  • 60ml vodka
  • 30ml Chambord
  • 60ml pineapple Juice
  • Fresh raspberries, to serve

Add vodka, Chambord and pineapple juice to a cocktail shaker over ice. Shake for 20 seconds, serve in a chilled glass. Top with fresh raspberries.

Amaretto Sour
A zesty cocktail with a cherry on top that tastes as good as it looks!

  • 50ml amaretto
  • 30ml lemon juice
  • 15ml sugar syrup
  • Dash angostura bitters
  • 1 egg white
  • Maraschino cherry to garnish

Add amaretto, lemon juice, sugar syrup and an egg white to a cocktail shaker and shake for 20 seconds. Add ice to the shaker and shake for another 20 seconds. Strain into Wine Glass with ice, add a dash of bitters and garnish with a maraschino cherry.

Cosmopolitan
Carrie Bradshaw has a big part to play for the popularity of the Cosmopolitan. It’s simple, sweet and perfect for a girl’s night in!

  • 30ml vodka
  • 30ml cranberry juice
  • 15ml Cointreau
  • Lime

Add vodka, cranberry juice, Cointreau, juice of half a lime and ice to a cocktail shaker. Shake for 20 seconds. Strain into a Stemless Tumbler or Wine Glass and garnish with a slice of fresh lime.

Pimm’s
A true taste of the warm weather. Pimm’s is a fruity and refreshing drink that is always a winner among a crowd.

  • 180ml Pimm's 
  • Lemonade
  • Ginger ale
  • Cucumber, strawberries, orange and mint leaves to garnish

Fill a jug with ice and add sliced cucumber, strawberry and orange. Add the Pimm’s and top with lemonade and ginger ale. Serve in the Stemless Tumblers, Garnish with fresh mint and stir.

Mimosa
Spice up your sparkling wine with some juice and delicious fruit. The options are endless!

  • Sparkling wine, prosecco or champagne
  • Juice – Orange, pineapple, guava, tropical
  • Fruit to garnish

Fill a champagne flute with sparkling wine ¾ way full. Add juice of choice and top with fruit.
