Classic Mac N' Cheese Recipe
INGREDIENTS
INSTRUCTIONS
- Cook the macaroni pasta in salted boiling water according to package instructions until al dente. Drain with colander and set aside.
-
In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, add the flour and whisk continuously for 1-2 minutes to form a smooth paste. Stir the roux with a spatula or whisk. This step removes the raw flour taste.
-
Slowly pour in the milk while whisking to ensure a smooth mixture. Continue to cook, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens and coats the back of a spoon (about 5-7 minutes).
-
Lower the heat and gradually add the shredded cheeses, stirring until melted and smooth. Add the mustard powder if using, and season the sauce with salt and pepper to taste.
-
Add the cooked macaroni to the cheese sauce, stirring gently to coat each piece evenly.
-
Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F). Transfer the mac and cheese to a greased baking dish. Sprinkle breadcrumbs over the top and bake for 10-15 minutes until golden and bubbly.
-
Enjoy your creamy, cheesy mac and cheese as a comforting main dish or as the perfect side for your holiday feast!
