How to find the silver lining

Sometimes, the biggest achievements come from hundreds of small moments—moments that are can be easy to overlook. Finding joy in those moments can be tricky, especially during these unprecedented times. But noticing the silver lining in small moments brings its own reward. Here are some ideas for how to do it.

Slow down

It’s easy to get caught up in everyday life and just go into autopilot. Don't be afraid to slow things down and celebrate the small victories. Take notice of your hard work, and never turn down an extra 5 minutes of sitting in the sunshine.

Live in the present

A Harvard study found that we spend about 47% of our waking hours thinking about something other than what we’re doing. That means most of us aren’t present for almost half of our lives! (1) Take time during your day to practice self-awareness. Focus your attention on the moment, instead of worrying about what's to come.

Adopt an attitude of gratitude

Start your day by focusing on 5 reasons to be grateful. It can be as simple as being grateful for a day filled with sunshine, or the positive quote your friend tagged you in on social media. By initiating your day with thoughts of gratitude, you are training your brain to find gratitude and happiness in everyday life.

Be inspired by others.

Here are some ways people around the world take pleasure in the small moments.
