Spring into a Melbourne Cup Party!
Have you ever held a Melbourne Cup Party? This year marks the 151st celebration of the Cup, and what a great opportunity to celebrate such an iconic part of our culture.
Melbourne Cup parties are another fun and exciting themed party - the only trouble is that it only comes around once a year, so be sure to plan ahead and get into it this year.
Read on for a few great ideas that may help you in making this Melbourne Cup party your most memorable yet.
First, you MUST be super-organised. Start off by dating a Melbourne Cup Party with a Host that you know you can rely on to pitch in and have a bit of fun.
TIMING
You have two main options regarding the timings:
1. Ask the guests to arrive about lunchtime and have their lunch while you set up your display.
2. Alternatively, guests could arrive around 11am; you can have the demonstration – then the luncheon. At the end of the day, be flexible to what the Host and the guests would prefer.
DISPLAY
Set up your display around the ‘Picnic’ theme. What a great opportunity to show off the Breeze range including:
- Breeze Picnic Set
- Breeze Serving Centre™
- Breeze Large Drink Carrier and Tumblers
- Breeze Wine Glasses or Flutes
- Breeze Wine Bottle Cooler
- Breeze Bowl and Servers
- Cool Cubes
Some props to use could be:
- Nice green cloth or a travel rug
- Champagne Bottles
- Flowers
- A jockey cap
- Whip
- Parasols
- Trophies
- Chocolate horse shoes
- Jockey on horse toys
ACTIVITIES
Team games are a fun and cheerful way to get to know each other and get everyone in a good mood.
Refer to monthly Insight games for some great ideas or create your own Melbourne Cup inspired ones.
For a bit of extra fun and excitement run several sweeps for a secret Tupperware prize - if there are 25 horses, get the Host to sell the tickets for $1.00 each and have $25 worth of Tupperware as the prize. Also, have a bundle of game gifts for runner up prizes. Or better still have a second sweep for $2 a ticket. That way you can have $50 worth of Tupperware for prizes and this will give you more scope for some better prizes. The Host will get credit for the $25 and $50 sales towards their fabulous Host Gift Special so they will certainly help you sell tickets!
Make sure you have the prizes with you and remember some beautiful ribbon goes a long way too!! Present them at the end of the race – most times, the winner is in such a great mood they will date a party there and then!
Remember not to manage the ‘Money Sweep’ yourself. Let the Host or guests run that one for you. Handling the sweep could deter people from buying tickets in the Tupperware sweep.
You’ll find that the bookings from a Melbourne Cup party will be with fun people who really love themed parties. Bring a theme sheet/folder with you to the party to give them a choice of which one they prefer.
Also, make sure you have several lists of the horses racing on that day. You can get them out of the morning papers. To really get into the spirit of the cup suggest everybody wears a hat and give a gift for the best dressed and funniest.
Alternatively, a fun variation could be ‘Tupperware Fashion on the Field’ where the Demonstrator awards small prizes for the guest(s) with the most creative use of Tupperware as an accessory or item of clothing (for example hats, jewellery and handbags).
But most of all just remember to have fun with your Host and guests. Melbourne Cup is a great excuse to get dressed up and get swept up in the national fever!
