Claudette Harrison -
Demonstrator of the Month

Hi Claudette, thanks for talking to us today!

Please tell us a little about your life before Tupperware.

I worked in recruitment for 11 years and for the final 2 years as a Branch Manager which generally left me with little time to spend with my family. After our 3rd child came along, Chris and I decided that it is time to change our lifestyle. I tried to return to work for 3 days per week and soon realised that part-time mums are expected to do a 5 day job in 3 days and don’t get paid accordingly! This was when I finally decided that I no longer wanted to work in the corporate world. It took feeling much unappreciated and loosing much confidence in myself for me to realise that I wasn’t going to find a work/life balance easily and the job that I loved… So I gave up looking all together. Chris worked crazy hours, rotating shifts and I had a very busy life with running the household and taking care of 3 kids.

Why did you join Tupperware?

I met Jan Horton and basically she asked me if I would be interested. I had previously considered it, but it wasn’t the right time for me then. This time was different. I liked Jan and had luckily met her by being asked to join a party at the last minute. I loved Tupperware, but mostly I loved to be able balance work with my family so the flexibility of being a Demonstrator was most enticing.

What do you love most about working in Tupperware, and what has it done for you personally and your family?

I have been incredibly lucky since I joined Tupperware! I earn and win so many awesome things but the recognition has been my absolute favourite thing. I feel like my team and our distributorship are my family. I receive the most amazing support from Jan and Sue & John and it gets me through the tough times.

We at home recently made a big move from Sydney to Orange. This meant that my husband was away for his job for the majority of the week for 6 months. It is a dream to be able to pick when you work and the flexibility of Tupperware has meant that I can be a mum to my 3 children, a wife to my husband and be a Manager at the same time!

My family loves that I can be there for them and its great to be able to contribute to the household financially.

Personally I am very lucky to have a wonderful supportive husband. Chris sees the hard work I do, but he also sees the rewards!

On the weekends when I work, my kids also get to spend quality time with their dad.

How do you keep your performance so consistent?

  1. I visualise my goals which drives the decisions I make and the planning I do around it.
  2. I want to succeed so I remember if I “Fail to plan” then I “plan to fail”.
  3. I look at my goals, short term and long  term, and I backward plan often enough to allow for changes in my family routines and keep in mind that the end goal hasn’t changed, but how I get there can be done in many ways…

Please give us your three top tips for a consistent business.

Well I would definitely say communication is the key. You have to enjoy what you are doing so have fun, laugh at yourself and remember that your customers will remember you if they had a great time. Also if you make a mistake or forget something, you are human so don’t be afraid to be honest with your customers.
