6 simple steps to achieving your goals!
The first few months of the year are crucial in setting yourself up with the right habits and behaviours to help you achieve your yearly goals.
Late last year, your Directors may have presented you with a commitment postcard (‘To the most important person in the world…me!’) This was where you filled out your personal, party and sales goals for January 2012. However, have you carried this forward to think about where you want to be at the end of the first quarter and the year that lies ahead?
Well, now is the time to honour your goals and set yourself up for success!
Take the time to think about the following 6 questions openly and honestly, as the answers are invaluable to your progress.
Are you ready? Ok, here we go!
Step 1 – What exactly do you want to achieve?
Be clear about what you want. Think specifically about all that you want to achieve both in your personal and business life.
Think about why you want to achieve this? What would it mean to you on a deeper level? How would it empower you? When do you want to achieve it by?
Step 2 – Where are you now?
Now that you are clear about where you want to go, review your current circumstances. This will help you make realistic choices about the changes that may be needed.
Are your current daily actions moving you closer towards or away from your goals?
Are there any roadblocks to your success that tend to repeat themselves?
Step 3 – How do you plan on getting there?
Think about specific actions that you need to take to make this goal a reality.
What systems will you need to put in place to ensure this happens?
What measures can you take to eliminate your roadblocks?
What support do you need from your Manager, Director or family?
Have you communicated your goals and needs clearly with everyone?
Step 4 – Reward yourself along the way
Break down your main goal into smaller tasks that you can celebrate along the way!
Stay focused, continue tracking and regularly review your progress.
If you slip back one week, don’t be too hard on yourself, just review your situation and the specific actions you will need to take in the following week to make up for the shortfall.
Step 5 – Find your buddy
In order to stay motivated it helps to have someone on your side to cheer you on. This could be your Manager, a Unit team member, Director or a friend.
They will celebrate your wins with you and give you a gentle nudge when you need it, rejoice in your progress and may even share in your rewards!
Think of one person that you can share this journey with and share your goal with them.
Step 6 – Each day, ask yourself: ‘What is one other action I can take TODAY to get me closer to my goal?’
Asking yourself this question daily, will help you stay focused and on track.
Remember to take the action daily, no matter how small your action is – just do it.
Create a visual reminder of this question on a post it note or on a picture of your reward and place it somewhere visible such as on the fridge, mirror or laptop.
Implementing this step could mean the difference between just wishing for your goal and actually achieving it.
