Must read: Top 10 tools to fill your diary NOW!
Using the right tools is the key to ongoing success at every level of a profession. It’s no different for Tupperware Demonstrators. We’d all agree that it’s smart to use the right tools to get the job done quickly, easily and more effectively. So, let’s apply this thinking to dating.
There are many tools we can use to help date new bookings when at our parties. We won’t be able to cover them ALL here (speak to your Manager or Director for more info) however, we’ve quizzed the experts and have come up with the united top 10 tools to get dates in your diary now.
These tools are simple and effective. You may have heard about them before, but are you using them all? Remember “To know and not to do, is the same as not to know at all.”
Here are 10 simple tools to help fill your diary:
1. Use icebreakers and games strategically to encourage dating.
Many of the games in the Insight archives are designed to encourage people to date with you, check them out.
2. Use the $35 Thank You Gift Voucher as a visual tempter.
Hand a voucher to everyone at the beginning of the party without explanation, and ask them to think of Tupperware they would like to spend it on. Let them know you’ll ask them later in the party. Demonstrate high priced items or sets, then go around the room and ask what they want to spend the voucher on. After everyone has told you, explain that they can have this voucher and so much more just for getting a few friends together and having a party with you. This is a great link into the Thank You Gifts and Host Gifts, so demonstrate them next. If the voucher is higher for the current month, simply explain that this is the usual Thank You Voucher however, for dating with you this month they will be able to select even more free Tupperware.
3. Have three party bags on your display.
Display your party planning literature in plain, attractive gift bags. You can buy these from the discount stores. Select a bag that stands out from your display, whilst complementing it. You may also wish to add a ribbon and/or a keychain as a tempter. Some Demonstrators also attach a ‘theme’ card (e.g. chocolate, cocktails or auction cash) to each bag. You might consider making one or two of them ‘premium’ with pre-assigned dates that you particularly want to fill in your diary. These could have a small mystery gift wrapped and attached. Make sure these party bags are in top condition so they look really appealing.
4. Demonstrate some high priced sets or complementary product groupings.
Calculate the retail price and party results required to receive them for free (or even half price). Group these products on your display and demonstrate them as a set, explaining how they’re used together. You can do this by telling a story about using them to make a delicious recipe, or explaining how they provide solutions to today’s hectic lifestyle. Once you’ve done a thorough demonstration, let the guests know how holding a party with you will help them get these ‘must have’ products free or at a great saving. Some Demonstrators like to put these sets into large attractive baskets/boxes to really set them apart. This strategy works especially well when there are Host Gift Vouchers on offer.
5. Make a fuss of your Host.
Show everyone how much you value them for being a part of your business. People don’t get much recognition in their day to day life, and this alone could be enough to encourage a future Host. At the beginning of the party make a point of thanking them in front of the guests and present them with a small gift, beautifully wrapped. Always send thank you cards (hand-written) in the mail after each party - this is a dying art, but one that still has huge impact and will help with referrals and repeat business.
6. Tease the guests about a couple of favourite recipes.
If you enjoy cooking (even if only the simplest recipes) this is a great way to get people intrigued. Throughout the party talk about the different themes you can offer, including recipes, but keep referring to a couple that are absolute favourites with your Host and guests at the moment. “Don’t let me forget to tell you about the two biggest hits at my parties at the moment. These recipes are so quick, easy and totally delicious, everyone is going crazy about them. I’ll tell you more a bit later.” By the time you tell them about these amazing themes, the guests will already be wondering who is going to have the parties. You can say “So, all we need now is two people who will let us come to their house to play with some new product and see each of these recipes in action!”
7. Display the Thank You Gifts and Host Gifts to look attractive and exclusive.
You need to differentiate these items and there are a few ways to do this. You can display them separately ensuring they look stunning with either a beautiful gift bow, simple prop or on top of a gift box. You can even have them hidden inside a gift box that has been turned on its side so the opening is at the back. Reveal each piece, demonstrating as you go, and place each item on top of the box, gradually building up the set. After you’ve demonstrated the various gift options ask for a show of hands: “If you could take one of these exclusive gifts home with you today, which one would it be?” Watch who puts up their hand for each gift; this helps you talk to them about hosting a party when you take their order. “Sandra, I noticed your hand shoot up when I asked who would like the ……, lets get a few friends together to see some of the products I couldn’t bring tonight and I’ll show you how we can get that exclusive set for you, free!”
8. Ask for a ‘volunteer’ to be a pretend Host.
After you have done a thorough demonstration of the Host and Thank You Gift options, ask for a volunteer. Put a chair in the middle of the room facing the guests and seat your volunteer on the chair. Explain that you are going to give him/her everything they can earn for having an average party with you this month. Gradually hand them all the products that make up the Thank You Gift and Host Gift ensuring you tell the value once they are holding all the products. You may want to show a couple of options. This is very powerful, your volunteer (along with others) is now a great dating lead as holding the products starts the ‘ownership’ process!
9. Ask the guests to use their price list as a ‘wish list’.
At the beginning of the party explain that people rarely purchase all their Tupperware needs at one party; often the list grows when they see the new products available. Let them know that they’ll receive a copy of their price list at the end of the party to keep; this can serve as their shopping list at future parties (dating bid). Suggest they circle or put an asterisk next to the products they are interested in; they can select their highest priority items to purchase today. You will need to refer to the numbers on the price list as you demonstrate to enable the guests to do this. For a bit of fun at the end of the demo, do a ‘spell-up’ for the largest wish list! This is a great tool to help you talk ‘dating’ with each guest that has items on their list not purchased.
10. Advertise other themes.
Let the guest know about the other party styles you can offer; Custom Kitchen Planning, Bridal Showers (popular in spring and summer), Fundraisers, Office Product Previews, Happy Hours, Stop’N Shop, Pamper parties, Kids Kitchen etc. You may wish to place a small thematic prop on your display to intrigue the guests and remind you to talk about a particular theme. There are training DVDs available for many of these themes so book them with confidence. Ask your Manager or Director for more details.
Use these tips at your parties and watch your dating statistics skyrocket. Dating well at parties is a win-win-win experience as it helps your Host earn great gifts, helps new people get introduced to the wonderful world of Tupperware quality products, and helps you have a great regular income from your flexible Tupperware business.
