Julia Scalise -
Demonstrator of the Month
Hi Julia, thanks for talking to Insight. What’s been your best experience as a Tupperware Demonstrator/Manager?
My best experience has been to be a promoting Manager.
What have you gained most from your Tupperware experience so far?
The Tupperware experience has given me so much - far beyond anything I ever imagined when I started. From flexibility with the children, gifts, an overseas holiday, a great income, and the ability to give ordinary people who I meet at a party an opportunity to change their lives and go on to achieve great things both personally and professionally.
Have you had any funny experiences while in Tupperware?
Plenty, but the most famous one was when I was sitting on the couch opposite my Host waiting for the guests to arrive and she kept looking at me in a strange way. After a while she said “Julia do you realise you’re sitting on my cat?” The big round and soft multi-coloured pile in the corner of the sofa clearly wasn’t the decorator cushion I thought it was.
What's the strangest use for Tupperware you've come across?
A customer told me that when she walks her dog she always takes her Tupperware sports bottle . Along the way she will remove the base and pours water into it from her drink bottle for her dog to drink..
What are your tips for dating parties?
Make sure you have fun and focus on the host and thank you gifts.
What are your tips on dating parties within 14 days?
I’ve started telling my Hosts that they wouldn’t normally invite their friends around for coffee and a chat two weeks in advance so clearly they don’t need so much time to organise a party. After all, that’s what a party is: a coffee, a catch up and a casual chat about a great product.
Have you got any tips for dating AT parties? What are the benefits of doing so?
Dating at parties is the way to go, as the Host will be happy she achieved the Host Gift and you have the opportunity to party plan the new Hosts face to face. If people have fun at the party they’ll want to date with you, and if you demonstrate the Host Gifts well people will fall in love with them and want to have a party.
Can you give us some tips on party planning success at your parties?
I’m very passionate about this topic, as it can really make a difference to your dating, recruiting and party sales, the three essential elements which make up the Tupperware business. The party planning booklet is the secret to my success and helps the Host to make a list of at least 30 people not 20.
How much contact do you have after party planning? What form does this contact take?
I always contact the customer a couple of days after they date with me to thank them and confirm the date. A week before the party I send out a confirmation card. In Birthday and Record Breaker I include a $1 scratchie wishing them luck with outside orders and getting people to the party. I then call the day before to ask how many are coming and to finalise things like the theme and ingredients.
Do you have any hints or tips for other Demonstrators/Managers?
Follow the basic Tupperware guidelines - The New Demonstrator Development Programme and the New Manager Programme. These are very simple and a foolproof guides to success. By following these guidelines weekly you’ll have a thriving programme and a successful business.
What product do you use the most at your place and why?
The modular mates are my baby in the range. I love everything about them and could talk about them for hours.
How do you sell this product at your parties?
I sell the Modulars by focusing on the elements of being organised and the motto “save food, stop waste”. A lack of storage in the home and the need to adhere to a budget is something most people can relate to in current times. Everyone needs to purchase and store food, whether they’ve just moved out of home or are elderly and living alone. Modulars do both: they save you lots of money and give you more storage.
What are the popular themes that hosts date for?
Chocolate and cocktail themes are always popular. I have my very own slipper and champagne theme and a desperate housewives theme where Bree comes along and makes the scones. Pearls, twin set and all.
What is the importance of having a personal program as a Demonstrator?
A personal programme is vital if you’re going to be successful as a Demonstrator. A strong personal programme ensures a regular income and further opportunities to date.
What is the importance of having a personal program as a Manager?
As a manager, it’s important to make a consistent contribution to weekly team sales. You need to hold a strong programme so that you can continue to date. More importantly, Managers are the best and the most experienced recruiter in any team; if you hold a strong personal programme you’ll always meet lots of different people who you can offer the opportunity to. This in turn will lead to new recruits, MiT’s and Promote Outs.
What’s been your highest personal sales in a month?
$22,441
What’s been your highest united sales in a month?
$124,459.82
What are your business/personal goals?
My business goal is to be an EGM. My personal goals are to give my sons a very good education and to build my dream home which is actually on its way thanks to Tupperware.
If you had one piece of advice for a new Demonstrator what would it be?
Your passion and enthusiasm for the product and the Tupperware opportunity will ensure success in this business. It’s always more important than experience when you start out, as you’ll always learn everything you need to know as you go along. It’s vital to maintain your passion and enthusiasm in order to enjoy continued success regardless of whether you have been in the business one week or 20 years.
Anything else special that you’d like to add?
I feel so privileged to have experienced so many wonderful things in such a short time, things which many people would never have the opportunity to experience in their entire career. To think that I started out as this being a hobby and to get out of the house! Looking back over the last four years, it’s been an amazing journey and a great learning experience. I can’t wait to see what’s next. As we all know the Tupperware business is always full of great surprises!
