Staff interview - Gaye Yeomans

After more than 35 years with Tupperware, warehouse supervisor Gaye Yeomans is still excited by new products and new career opportunities within the Company.

When Gaye Yeomans began working at Tupperware head office in Melbourne in 1974, little did she know it would become a job for life. Gaye’s career with Tupperware has spanned roles in the manufacturing department, the assembly department and her current role as Direct to Distributor warehouse supervisor – she’s even had a brief stint working as a Demonstrator. “What I love about Tupperware is the sense of family and friendship. They’ve really looked after me over the years.”

Gaye’s current role as Direct to Demonstrator warehouse supervisor involves co-ordinating the picking and packing of orders. Once the orders are packaged, they are dispatched. On an average day, Gaye co-ordinates several hundred orders. During busy times, such as Record Breaker Week in December, that number nearly triples.

Last year, Gaye felt inspired to become a part-time Demonstrator. “I’m heading toward retirement age. When I do retire, I don’t want to sit around all day. I want to do something. I thought I’d look into being a Demonstrator,” says Gaye. “I found that it was hard to commit to my full-time job and be a Demonstrator part-time. But I really enjoyed it. Everyone at my Distributorship was so enthusiastic.”

Gaye adds that the motivation went beyond the financial benefits. “It’s not just about making money and sales, it’s about enjoying what you’re doing and having a fun experience and improving yourself – not only financially. I was so impressed with the Managers. They really made a strong impression on me with their confidence and their passion.”

“When I eventually retire, the option is there for me to become a Demonstrator. It has a wonderful social aspect and it keeps you young!”

Gaye’s favourite Tupperware product is the QuickShake. “You can make wonderful milk shakes. It’s just a simple little thing and you don’t have to have a big electric contraption. You just put your milk and flavouring in and give it a shake. My grandchildren love it,” says Gaye, who has two children and five grandchildren.

“I’ve seen so many people be given great opportunities at Tupperware,” says Gaye. “I love seeing the Managers and Demonstrators developing. You can watch people who once had little confidence develop into leaders who can get up on stage and look assertive. It’s a wonderful company to work for.”
